Mission & Vision
The mission is to help young adults in high school and college build a foundation for adulthood - good health, wealth, relationships, & purpose- so that they feel in control of their destiny & life, and feel capable of creating the most enjoyable, fulfilling, successful life possible for themselves as independent adults.
The vision is to help them achieve this mission by providing the support, understanding, skills, knowledge & strength through discussion, exercises, activities, and networking with other great teachers, experts, mentors to create new opportunities.
What Type of Mentoring?
I work with students & their families to help them create a foundation for good health, wealth, relationships, & purpose, so that the students feel empowered to lead a fulfilling, enjoyable life.
Personal Life:
Helping students build a healthy, balanced life physically & emotionally, and to discover their unique purpose, passions, and talents, in order to maximize their motivation, enjoyment and fulfillment in life.
Education:
Helping students with the skills & tools to succeed in school, with less effort & struggle, so that they can feel self-reliant and empowered, with clear understanding of what they want and how to get it.
Family:
Helping guide students & their families through emotional pain, family stress, & difficult life circumstances to build a strong foundation at home.
NOT THERAPY:
Coaching & Mentoring are not clinical therapy. We can work simultaneously while the student is in therapy, or be an alternative way to get support before going to therapy. Often times the right mentor can help clarify issues that will make the job of a therapist easier. The decision to see a therapist or not is 100% the decision of the client &/or client's legal guardians.
How Sessions Work
Sessions are as diverse as the needs of the clients. Much of our work will be traditional discussions, but sessions also can include various mental, physical, & emotional exercises, school skills, life skills, family meetings, meeting other mentors, & trying new activities.
Sessions generally take this form:
1) What's going on?
2) Get grounded.
3) Explore the issue of the day.
4) Create a mini-plan and take action.
There are three aspects to transformation. We work on all three:
Understanding how the past is holding your back.
Having an inspiring vision for the future.
Taking action with a good plan in the present.
If the problems are practical in nature, like learning to study better or improving diet, we will work on the skills and tools that will solve them.
If the problems are emotional in nature, like confidence issues or depression, we must do inner work.
If there is a specific skill or knowledge needed to help with a particular issue, we will connect the mentee with other expert mentors, teachers, and organizations as well.
If family or others are involved, we may discuss the issues separately with each member, and then bring everyone together to build understanding and healthy relationship dynamics.
Sessions can include discussions, field trips, meditation techniques, schoolwork help, new extracurricular activities, aptitude tests, physical exercise, cooking healthy food, time outdoors, connecting with other specialized mentors & healers, & more.
If it is not comfortable to discuss the past, we will focus exclusively on working in the present.
Ultimately, we want the mentee to feel free, safe, supported, healthy, confident, motivated, and empowered to go after the life they want, and just as life as infinite possibilities, we have infinite ways we can work to achieve our goals.
ABOUT: Peter is a South Bay (Los Angeles) native, graduating from Chadwick High School in 2001, and from USC in 2006. He is a mentor, mediator, & educator helping adults, teens, families, couples, students, & communities.
In 2010, while working as a college program mentor & guide in the Indian Himalayas, he met a unique teacher, Dr. Prabhavati Dwabha, an american doctor, therapist, healer, and orphanage director, who became his teacher in the field of emotional transformation. Dwabha's work has helped 1000s of kids emerge out of traumatizing life circumstances and grow to become healthy, happy, successful adults. Peter helps his clients using much of Dr. Dwabha's unique system, as well as bringing his personal experiences.
(You can learn more about her work here- sayyesnow.org/prabhavati.html).
As a conflict mediator, Peter was trained at the Mediation Center of the Pacific, and has worked with diverse groups of people, even different cultures and languages.
He has traveled & worked in many countries, across a vast spectrum of society from rural villages to affluent communities. These experiences give perspective on what life can truly offer, what we all share around the world, and what brings people the most happiness & fulfillment.
Some extracurricular interests & skills have included training as a wilderness first responder, fitness trainer, tutor, yoga instructor, survival skills courses, college athlete, youth basketball coach, level I reiki practitioner, landscaper, beginning piano player, & very mediocre salsa dancer.
We are dynamic human beings, and the more we explore all of our interests, and get in touch with our true human potential, the better we will feel & experience life.
*NOTE: Peter is a mentor, not a licensed therapist or mental health professional

“You don’t need to control emotion. Emotions are natural, like passing weather.
Sometimes it’s fear, sometimes sorrow or anger. Emotions are not the problem.
The key is to transform the energy of emotion into constructive action.”
